In a Covid-19 world, we’ve lost our ability to connect to our audience through live, in-person events. Despite this hurdle, Gary believes we can still have live & engaging events in the virtual world. Since the Covid Quarantine began, Gary has been helping people elevate the quality of their virtual shows, producing successful live virtual events for The Moth, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), The City of Ventura’s 2020 State of the City Address, Ronald McDonald House of Los Angeles Annual Fundraising Gala, the USC Marshall School of Business, and PeopleMedia.
Gary is an experienced live-event producer who works with venues of all sizes (UCLA’s Royce Hall, The Broad Stage, The Avalon Theater), industry legends (Cheech Marin, Norman Lear), top performers of today (Tig Nataro, Hasan Minhaj, Ali Wong) as well as emerging talent. Gary has been producing live events in Los Angeles since 2010.
Whether or not we realize it, storytelling is central to our daily lives. It's how we relate to friends, family and co-workers. It's how we influence change in both personal and professional arenas. With Gary’s years of story producing experience, he can help you take your storytelling to the next level through one-on-one coaching or workshops.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Gary Buchler made his way to Los Angeles in 2004 after a 4-year layover in Houston, Texas where he met his wife, Cricket. Together, they have produced four children. Gary is a regular contributor to the New Yorker (Cartoon Caption Contest) and is an active member of several major corporations' customer rewards programs.
Gary is a creative, highly organized, and detail-oriented program and live event producer with 15 years’ experience in the arts. He has a proven ability to implement plans as well as design and refine well-established processes, ensuring a smoothly run event, whatever it may be. He is also skilled at building loyal audience communities, managing employees, A/V teams, and volunteers. Gary can cover all aspects of your live event, from scouting locations to creating the ideal on-stage atmosphere, and from talent acquisition to focusing on the audience’s experience. He can also maintain your event’s social media presence and market events, whether that be with local radio stations or other community partners and sponsors.
“When I produce a live event, I’m not just planning an event, I’m planning an experience. How do I make this the highest quality experience for the highest number of people, within the budget? It’s important for me to find creative partners that share my value towards people and to remain open-minded and flexible throughout the planning process."
Sessions with Gary help you figure out what your stories are and how to best frame and tell them. His goal is to help his clients garner the maximum effect from their audience, whether that audience is a family member, friend, co-worker, boss or a group of 500 people.
· One-On-One Coaching: Whether you have a story you are looking to perfect, or don’t even know what you want to tell, Gary will help you overcome these obstacles and the challenges all storytellers struggle with.
· Classroom Seminars: What are the building blocks to a good story? How much information is too much information? Gary will teach you the basics of story structure in a 1 hour, 90 minute, or 4 hour workshop. The more time you put in, the more you and your colleagues walk away with.
